Cold joints and patchy colour
Stopping mid-elevation, working in direct sun, or running out of material mid-batch all show as permanent shading lines. You can't repaint silicone render to hide it.

Service overview
K Rend is the UK's most-specified silicone render — and the single biggest exterior upgrade you can make to a North West home. Through-coloured, self-cleaning, breathable, and good for 20+ years before any maintenance is needed. The catch: it's unforgiving to install, which is why most failures are application errors, not product failures.
K Rend is a silicone-enhanced thin-coat render system applied over a base coat and reinforcing mesh. Grey caulk (sometimes spelled 'caulk' or 'caulk render') refers to the popular through-coloured anthracite and mid-grey finishes that dominate modern North West facades.
Homeowners refreshing 1970s–90s housing stock, self-builders specifying a contemporary facade, landlords investing in long-life finishes, and commercial clients wanting a low-maintenance premium aesthetic.
When existing render or pebble dash has failed; on new builds; during a re-mortgage refurb to boost valuation; or as part of an EWI retrofit funded under regional schemes.
K Rend is system-dependent — beads, mesh, base coat thickness, joint sequencing and weather windows all matter. Manufacturer-trained installers deliver the full 25-year warranty. Anyone else voids it.
The cost of getting it wrong
K Rend itself is one of the best-performing renders on the market. The horror stories you read online almost always trace back to one of four installer mistakes.
Stopping mid-elevation, working in direct sun, or running out of material mid-batch all show as permanent shading lines. You can't repaint silicone render to hide it.
Reinforcing mesh must wrap windows, doors and corners at 45°. Skip this and cracks appear above every opening within 18 months.
Under-applied base coat or poor mesh embedment leads to a hollow-sounding finish that delaminates in 3–5 years.
K Rend warranties only apply when installed by registered installers using the full system. Non-registered jobs leave you with no manufacturer cover.
Our process
Same process on every job — domestic, commercial, single-room or full house.
On-site sample boards, RAL/K Rend colour chart, and substrate assessment. We help you visualise the final finish before you commit.
Detailed written quote covering scaffold, prep, base coat, mesh, primer, topcoat, beads and snagging. Weather contingency built in.
Scaffold up, substrate cleaned and primed if required, bell beads, stop beads, corner beads and movement joints fitted to spec.
K Rend HBS or HPX-FC base coat applied at 6–8mm with full alkali-resistant mesh embedment, lapped 100mm at all joints.
K Rend Silicone TC topcoat applied wet-on-wet across full elevations, finished with a plastic float to the agreed texture.
Why MCB
Hydrophobic surface sheds rain and dirt — your house looks freshly rendered for years, not weeks.
Colour is in the topcoat, not painted on. Chips and scuffs blend in rather than flashing white primer.
Backed by K Rend itself, plus our written workmanship guarantee — meaningful long-term cover.
Silicone chemistry lets the wall breathe while shedding water — ideal for the wet North West climate.
Specified by architects and developers because it photographs and ages well. Adds tangible resale value.
No repaint cycle. A correctly installed K Rend facade is fit-and-forget for 20+ years.
In depth
K Rend isn't a single product — it's a complete render system, and each component has to be right. Here's how a proper K Rend installation is built up across an elevation.
The build-up starts with substrate assessment. K Rend can go onto sand-and-cement render, common brick, blockwork, EWI boards, and many existing render surfaces — but each needs different primer and base-coat thickness. We tap-test, moisture-test, and document substrate condition before quoting.
Beading is where most non-specialists cut corners. Bell-cast beads at the base, stop beads at junctions, expansion beads at storey heights, and reinforcing corner beads — all stainless or PVC, fixed with the correct fixings for the substrate. Get this wrong and the system cracks at every interface within two winters.
The base coat (HBS or HPX-FC depending on substrate) goes on at 6–8mm with full alkali-resistant mesh embedment. Mesh laps must be 100mm and additional mesh patches go at 45° across every window and door corner — this is the single most common skip we see on cowboy jobs.
The silicone topcoat (K Rend Silicone TC, Silicone TC15 or Silicone FT) goes on wet-on-wet across whole elevations. Stopping mid-wall is forbidden — that's where cold joints come from. We programme around weather windows and never start an elevation we can't finish in one pass.
Most domestic K Rend jobs are a single visit, 7–14 days on site including scaffold, with a colour consultation upfront and snag walk on completion.
Commercial work is sequenced by elevation, coordinated with main contractor programme, and delivered with documented finish photos and warranty registration.
